Why is it so hot indoors? The factors that really affect the temperature

Perché in casa fa così caldo? I fattori che incidono davvero sulla temperatura

Even with the windows closed and the air conditioner running, some homes seem to retain more heat than others. In reality, the indoor temperature depends on numerous factors that are often underestimated.

Understanding where the heat comes from makes it possible to improve home comfort and use the air conditioner more efficiently.

The factors that have the greatest impact include:

  • sun exposure: rooms facing south or west tend to overheat more;
  • floor of the home: top floors are generally warmer;
  • quality of the thermal insulation;
  • size and type of windows;
  • presence of curtains, shutters, or solar shading;
  • appliances and electronic devices that produce heat.

Building materials also affect the indoor temperature. Poorly insulated walls and particularly exposed roofs can accumulate heat during the day and release it slowly in the evening.

To improve comfort, you can take some simple measures:

  • limit sunlight entering during the hottest hours;
  • use blackout curtains or shutters;
  • air out the rooms in the early morning;
  • avoid using many appliances at the same time;
  • keep the air conditioner temperature between 24°C and 26°C.

Every home has different characteristics, and understanding the factors that influence the temperature makes it possible to reduce waste and create a more pleasant environment throughout the summer.

With a few simple measures and greater awareness of your home's characteristics, you can improve everyday well-being and make using the air conditioner more efficient.
